Services Performed
  • Check performance of HVAC system. Check condition of cabin filter ( if equipped ). Attach necessary equipment to verify current system charge. Advise on necessary repairs. Recovered .14 lbs of refrigerant from system initially ( capacity is 1.15 lbs / indicates a leak in the system ). After recharging system, found that the A/C compressor would not engage. To confirm presence / location of leak, A/C compressor must engage to circulate oil / dye mixture through system. *NOTE* – Smelled what may have been refrigerant coming through dash vents, most likely will need HVAC evaporator core. Need to replace A/C compressor kit, then recheck system for leak(s). The kit consists of A/C compressor, A/C condenser assembly with drier attached, HVAC expansion valve, and necessary o-rings and seals. Will also need to back flush the A/C lines with chemical flush solvent.

  • Remove necessary parts to access / replace the clutch master cylinder. Clean residual fluid from the affected area.
  • Remove necessary parts to access / replace the clutch slave cylinder and necessary line seals. Clean residual fluid from the affected area.
  • Upon arrival, clutch pedal was on the floor. Pulled the clutch pedal up, noticed that the pedal felt like there was air in system. Proceeded to remove the air cleaner assembly, as well as the engine cover, then was able to access and unbolt the slave cylinder. Found the plunger was no longer attached to the slave cylinder, and the dust boot was torn. During operation, suspect that the plunger was sucking air when disengaging the clutch. Brake fluid / clutch hydraulic fluid is very dark and discolored. Need to replace the clutch slave cylinder and flush the brake fluid system ( brake master cylinder reservoir is also the clutch hydraulic fluid reservoir ).

Services Performed
  • Attached necessary equipment to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes and view diagnostic information. Review manufacturer's technical service bulletins as the pertain to customer's concern(s). Perform diagnostics as necessary. Found that the main power cable into the under hood fuse panel had a loose connection. Further inspection revealed that the main power fuse ( 80 Amp ) had been blown, and a piece of aluminum had been put in place to complete the circuit ( bypass the blown fuse ). This is a loose connection, causing intermittent shorts. Also, this is dangerous to bypass a fuse in such a way. Need to replace blown fuse and recheck system performance.

  • Attached necessary equipment to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes and view diagnostic information. Review manufacturer's technical service bulletins as the pertain to customer's concern(s). Perform diagnostics as necessary. Attached necessary equipment to test fuel pressures. Fuel pressures within specifications at this time. Pressure tested cooling system while engine was cold, found no external leaks at this time. Allowed system to hold pressure over night, found pressure did not leak down. Checked engine oil and transmission fluid for signs of coolant contamination. Both fluids are okay at this time. Ran vehicle for approx. one hour, then shut engine off. Waited 30 min., then removed spark plugs. All 5 show signs of coolant in cylinders. Upon inspection, found coolant in cylinders also. Removed turbo output hose at intercooler, found no signs of coolant. Confirmed coolant entering cylinders. Possible head gasket failure, cracked cylinder head, or crack in cylinder wall. Will require removal of the cylinder head and having cylinder head sent to machine shop to check for leaks / cracks, then replace necessary gaskets and parts to reinstall cylinder head. *NOTE* While running engine, heard excessive noise from engine, traced to air entering the engine through the front crankshaft seal due to excessive engine vacuum. This is caused by a failed PCV ( positive crankcase ventilation ) system. Most likely cause is from failed oil separator.

  • Attached necessary equipment to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes and view diagnostic information. Review manufacturer's technical service bulletins as the pertain to customer's concern(s). Perform diagnostics as necessary. Found Codes: Transmission – P0747 ( clutch pressure control solenoid valve A stuck on ) – P0757 ( shift solenoid valve B stuck on ) – P0776 ( clutch pressure control solenoid valve B stuck off ) Test drove vehicle while cold. Transmission seems to be shifting fine. Check transmission fluid level, fluid is full. Fluid is also brown and has a burnt smell. Due to transmission only acting up after extreme heat conditions ( extended stop and go traffic ), recommend performing transmission fluid exchange service, clearing codes and rechecking performance.
